Life of LGBTQ+ Youth in Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad Region

The new LGBTQ+ Group Coming Out’s research focuses on the state of LGBTQ+ teenagers in Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad Region in the last couple of years.

Our goal was to understand how the anti-“non-traditional sexual relationships propaganda” legislation enacted in 2013 affects non-heterosexual and non-cisgender teenagers, their chances of discovering who they really are, and their ability to receive support, help, and objective information about gender and sexuality.

According to the research, anti-“propaganda” legislation has a negative impact on the lives of teenagers both directly and indirectly. It not only makes information about gender, sexuality, and LGBTQ+ difficult to obtain but also deprives teenagers of support from people around them and even encourages bullying.
